Mrs. Setyo Asri, S. Pd., my designated resource teacher at SMP 2 Negeri, instructs students in grades 7 through 9 in English. She maintains power in her classes while emanating kindness. Mrs. Setyo is a passionate educator who rarely shows her wrath and frequently offers guidance and inspiration. Her compassionate demeanor promotes efficient classroom administration and guarantees that appropriate disciplinary measures are implemented when needed. She finds it easier to teach at SMP 2 because of the kids' exceptional learning abilities, which stem from their sincere interest in the subject. Like many teachers, she experiences difficulty in dealing with naughty students and is doubtful to face them due to their disrespectful behavior.
In addition to having a great rapport with the pupils, Mrs. Setyo also gets along well with their parents, encouraging productive conversation over the phone and in person. She struggles to deal with misbehaving kids and finds it tough to discipline them, just like many other instructors do.
Teaching Methods and Authentic Assessment
Mrs. Setyo uses project-based learning, discovery learning, and round robin brain storming. These teaching methodologies are designed to actively engage students in the learning process, promoting critical thinking, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Each approach offers unique benefits and is suited to different learning objectives and contexts. Utilizing this type of method ensures authentic assessment. In addition to that, she assigns essays also as a form of assessment aside from quizzes.
During discussions, she strives to answer questions in a manner that students can comprehend, using examples. Positive reinforcement through compliments for correct answers motivates learners. Comprehension checks are essential, employing questions such as “Any questions?”, “Have you finished?”, “Try to explain?”, “Do you understand?”, “Are you ready for the daily test?”, “What is the meaning of?”, “Have you made the summary?”
Teaching Materials and Innovation
She uses the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia's book "Think Globally Act Locally," adding videos to conversations. Mrs. Setyo embraces digitalization and incorporates technology by using YouTube to enhance teaching, Canva for presentations, and Teams for daily examinations. Online tests, however, could provide technical challenges including connectivity problems.
Learning Resources and Technologies
Inside each classroom, it has a laptop, projector, projector screen, speaker, and internet which helps deliver the lessons of Mrs. Setyo.
Her main objective is to develop in her students a strong sense of Indonesian character and citizenship; she believes this may be accomplished by following the regulations as set down. She always reiterates to teach from the heart to ensure effective teaching.
